10km Ipswich CBD Profile The work Karalee means 'waterhole near grass, pretty hill beside the water or grass near a waterhole' The Brisbane and Bremer Rivers were very important in the development of the early city of Ipswich as an inland port for trade between Brisbane, Ipswich and the rich Darling Downs. River trade was so important that in 1865 the Department of Harbours and Marines began construction of a sandstone wall to dam the Brisbane River and make the Bremer River the most important river. Construction of the wall was never completed and it was not until after the 1974 flood that this wall was exposed at Karalee. During World War 2, an airfield was built at Karalee to be used should Amberley Airforce Base be bombed or conjested.
In 1969 developers began buying up the dairy farms in Karalee and dividing the land into small acreage building blocks. The
Brisbane River and Bremer River flow around the suburb and road acces links residents to
the Warrego Highway, Ipswich Motorway , City of Ipswich and Brisbane City. A bridge links Karalee to Karana Downs, Mount Crosby and through to Brisbane City. The majority of homes in Karalee are owner occupied, making the area very attractive to families looking to belong to a community. Real Estate & Design Karalee has land sizes from 100sqm to 5 acres.
