in the foothills of the D'Aguilar Ranges, Karana Downs is in the
Western Suburbs of Brisbane in south-east Queensland. The suburb has a
glorious bushland setting while still being within commuting distance
of Brisbane. The
suburb of Karana Downs was created in 1973. The orignal land was owned
by George Holt in the mid 1800's( Source: Lesley Jenkins, Brisbites
2002) The Brisbane River flows around the suburb and a bridge links residents to the Warrego Highway, Ipswich Motorway and the City of Ipswich. The majority of homes in Karana Downs are owner occupied, making the area very attractive to families looking to belong to a community.
History The
Jagera and Turrbal groups occupied land in the Brisane and Ipswich
areas. The exact Boundaries are not known,however the Turrbal generally
occupied the area north of the Brisbane river. Both groups had closely
related languages which are classified as belonging to the larger
Yaggera language group. (Ref: Lesley Jenkins, Brizbites 2002) Real Estate & Design Karana Downs has land sizes from 600sqm to 5 acres. Home styles are varied from brick & tile to more modern contemporary in the new acreage estates. Entry level for homes in the area is around the mid to high $300 000's Eating Out There is a restuarant /bistro at the local Karana Downs Golf Club which provides meals several nights a week.
